Physical and geographical features of the city

Kobrin is located on the Podlasie-Brest depression, within the limits of the Caledonian expansion of structural complexes, the basement surface is ≈0.9 km. The city of Kobrin is located within the Pripyat glaciation, the Dnieper stage, the Stolin phase. Pre-Quaternary deposits are represented by undivided deposits (sands, clays), Neogene system, Pleacene time. Quaternary deposits are represented on the Pripyat horizon, Sozh subhorizon, fluvioglacial supramoraine deposits of the Middle Pleistocene. The Kobrinsky district is located at the junction of 2 geological structures: the Podlyassko-Brest depression (the northwestern part of the district) and the Polesskaya saddle. Therefore, there are the following minerals here: clays, loams, building sands, sapropel, peat.

 

It is located in the region of the Polesskaya lowland, a subregion of the Belarusian Polesie, on the Brest lowland. The relief of the Kobrin region can be clearly divided into two zones: northern and southern. Landscapes change rapidly from north to south. The northern zone of the region is located on the Kobrin Predpolesie. The most elevated part of the territory is a hilly plain near the northeastern outskirts of the region. The highest elevation of 169.1 m is 2 km away. north of the village of Tevli, the lowest mark is 138.0 m. Mukhavets on the western border of the region. The southern zone of the district is located in Polissya. The relief of Polissya is slightly wavy, almost flat. Kobrin is located within the Mukhavets river valley.

 

Kobrin belongs to the Central, moderately warm and moderately humid zone of the Republic of Belarus. The warm period lasts 256 days. The duration of the cold period is 109-110 days. The warmest month is July, the coldest month is January. The average monthly air temperature in July is +18°…+19°, in January ─ -3.5°…-5°. In Kobrin, on average, 650 mm of precipitation falls per year. Their main number falls on the warm period. In January - up to 35 mm, in July - 80 ... 85 mm. In the cold period falls up to 250 mm., In the warm season - up to 450 mm.

 

The city is located within the Pripyat hydrological region. The hydrological basin belongs to the Western Bug. The river passes through the city. Mukhavets, Bona Canal, r. Kobrinka, r. Lepesovka. The average annual water consumption is about 4 m3/s. The type of water supply is mixed. Level of occurrence of underground waters of Kobrin from 140 m. up to 160m.

 

Kobrin is located within the Polessky province, the South-Western district, the Brest-Drogichensko-Ivanovsky district, on soddy-podzolic sandy and sandy soils. In Kobrin, the main soil-forming rocks are water-glacial loams. The predominant processes of soil formation are podzolic and swamping. Soddy gleyic and gley soils on loam, sandy loam and sand.

 

According to geobotanical zoning, Kobrin belongs to the zone of mixed forests, the subzone of broad-leaved-pine forests, the Bugsko-Polessky district. The main plant formations are lichen-heather. The following protected plants grow on the territory of the district: Summer truffle (Tuber aestivum Vitt.), Gray chanterelle (Cantharellus cinereus (Pers.: Fr.) Fr), Umbelliferous griffon (Grifola umbellata (Fr.) Pil.), Greenish chaenotheca (Chaenotheca chlorella (Ach.) Mull.-Arg.), Dark parmeliopsis (Parmeliopsis hyperopta (Ach.) Arnold.), Green dicranum (Dicranum viride (Sull. et Lesq. in Sull.) Lindb.), Large astrantia (Astrantia major L .), Shadow sedge (Carex umbrosa Host.), European swimsuit (Trollius europaeus L.).

 

According to the zoogeographic zoning, the city of Kobrin belongs to the Rhine district, the Baltic province, the Polessky (lowland) zoogeographic region. The main species of animals that live in the Kobrin region are: baby mouse, already ordinary, hare, badger, squirrel, raccoon dog, beaver, muskrat, mute swan, diving duck, black grouse, hazel grouse, lark, bullfinch, woodpecker.  The following species of birds listed in the Red Book live in the area: black stork, gray crane.

Kobrin belongs to the Polessye province, the Pina-Mukhavetsky district for the zoning of the natural landscapes of Belarus. The landscape of Kobrin is forests, low forests, meadows and swamps. The green zone of the Kobrin district is 4954 hectares. In order to preserve landscape diversity in the region, the following custom-made territories have been created: the Zvanets republican landscape reserve with an area of 1508 hectares ─ part of the largest untouched lowland swamp in Europe: the Zvanets swamp (the world's largest population of aquatic warbler nests in this swamp ─ a bird species , which is on the verge of extinction) and the biological reserve of local importance "Divin ─ Great Forest" with an area of 3000 hectares (created to preserve rare plant species listed in the Red Book of the Republic of Belarus). There are two natural monuments of republican significance in the district: the park of culture and recreation named after. A.V. Suvorov and Suvorov oak.
